Psychological age definition is relative to a persons mental and emotional age. The results support a developmental interpretation of rule learning which maintains that once logical rules are learned, attributes of information acquire meaning within the context of those rules. Those who study lifespan development recognize that chronological age does not completely capture a persons age. when used as a standard against which to measure behavior, intelligence, etc. Mental age was first defined by the French psychologist Alfred Binet, who introduced the intelligence test in 1905. On the abstract level, the average group performed significantly higher than the other groups. Psychology, Developmental Biologythe number of years a person has lived, esp. Since the average mental age of adults does not increase past age 18, an adult taking an IQ test is assigned the chronological age of 18. Results indicated that all groups perfomed similarly on the concrete level. A test was constructed to assess rule and attribute understanding. The younger mentally handicapped group matched the average and learning-disability groups for CA and the older mentally handicapped group for IQ. The older mentally handicapped group matched the aveage and learning-disability groups on MA. This is the primary way people define their age. It’s your age in terms of years, months, days, etc. The learning disability group was matched with the average group on MA and CA. Your chronological age is the amount of time that has passed from your birth to the given date. Subjects included four groups, one group of children with average IQs, one learning-disability group, and two mentally handicapped groups. ![]() There are accepted mental development standards for an average person based on his/her chronological age. A further issue relevant to this research was the effect of CA and MA on the understanding of rules of logic. The mental age can be quite different from the chronological age. Because rules of logic must be viewed in the context of the attributes of information to which they refer, three attribute dimensions were also investigated: (a) positive-negative, (b) quantitative-nonquantitative, and (c) concrete-abstract. metaphor development in conjunction with verbal intelligence and linguistic competence in middle childhood and at the transition to early adolescence was investigated. The relative difficulty of understanding the logical rules of conjunction and disjunction was studied. ![]()
